Welcome to Chatelope. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience using our AI conversation management application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile app and web application.
Chatelope allows you to import conversation exports from AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini. This data includes:
Where this data is stored depends on the app you use; see Data Storage below.
The web app's Cloud mode requires signing in with Google. When you do, we receive and store your name, email address, profile photo and Google account identifier, along with the sign-in tokens Google issues. We also keep a session record so you stay signed in, your subscription status, and any promo codes you redeem or referrals you make. The mobile app does not create an account with us.
To learn which pages and features help people get started, the Chatelope website and web app record a small set of usage events. We collect these ourselves and store them on our own servers. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising services. The events are:
Events are linked to a random identifier stored in a first-party cookie (chatelope_aid, kept for one year), and to your account if you are signed in. They never include the content of your conversations, their titles, file names or your email address. Events are deleted automatically after 13 months. The mobile app does not send usage events.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, no events are recorded and the cookie is not set. You can also clear the cookie at any time, which starts a new random identifier.
The mobile app stores your conversations on your device, in an encrypted database. It does not upload your conversations to our servers. The app does download the list of supported AI models from our website, which involves no personal data.
In Cloud mode, the conversations, messages, attachments, folders and tags you import are stored on our servers, so you can reach them from any browser after signing in. Content you create with AI features, such as generated images and audio and the prompts used, is stored there too. Our servers are hosted by Hetzner, and data travels to them over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Export files you upload are deleted once they have been processed.
In Offline mode, your conversations are stored only in your browser on your device and are not saved on our servers. Clearing your browser data deletes them. AI features still pass through our servers, as described below.
If you import a conversation by pasting a public share link, the web app opens that link from our servers to read the conversation. The mobile app opens share links directly from your device.
If you turn on Google Drive backup or sync, a copy of your conversations, folders and tags is saved to a private app folder in your own Google Drive that only Chatelope can access. Chatelope does not add its own encryption to these backups; they are protected by your Google account. On mobile, the app talks to Google Drive directly. On the web, your browser keeps the Drive access token and sends it with each backup request; our servers use it to create or restore the backup and do not store it.
AI features (such as chatting with or continuing a conversation, generating titles, images or speech, and transcription) use API keys that you provide. When you use them, the conversation text or prompt involved is sent to the provider you choose: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Alibaba (Qwen), Zhipu AI (Z.ai), Moonshot AI, MiniMax, ElevenLabs or fal.ai. Each provider handles that data under its own privacy policy.
On mobile, requests go directly from your device to the provider, and your keys are kept in the device's secure storage. On the web, your keys are kept in your browser, and each request passes through our servers on its way to the provider. We do not store your API keys on our servers.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. We share data only with the services needed to run Chatelope:
We may also disclose information if required by law.
You have control over your data:
Chatelope is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
