How to search all your ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini chats in one place
Updated · By Chatelope (Hilo Inc)
If you use more than one AI assistant, finding an old answer means remembering which one you asked. Each assistant only searches its own chats. Bringing all of your history into one place fixes that.
What each assistant’s own search can do
| How to search | What it covers | Limits | |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Search in the sidebar, or Ctrl+K / Cmd+K on the web; also in the mobile apps | Keywords in chat titles and content, including archived chats | Canvas contents aren’t searched; exact words work best |
| Claude | Ask Claude to find or refer to a past chat (the “Search and reference chats” setting) | Your past chats; chats in a project only from within that project | Paid plans only (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise) |
| Gemini | Menu › Search, or ask Gemini about a past chat | Your Gemini chats | Needs Gemini Apps activity turned on; activity older than 18 months is auto-deleted by default |
Each of these only covers its own assistant. If you use more than one, you have to remember where you asked, sign in to each account, and search them one at a time. Chats you deleted, and accounts you no longer have access to, are out of reach.
Step 1: Export your history from each assistant
Each platform emails you a download link. Start all three exports now; they can run at the same time.
- How to export ChatGPT history: 5 steps at chatgpt.com, and the link is valid for 24 hours.
- How to export Claude history: 4 steps at claude.ai, and the link is valid for 24 hours.
- How to export Gemini history: 6 steps at takeout.google.com, and the link is valid for 7 days.
Step 2: Import everything into Chatelope
- Sign in to Chatelope (it’s free) and open Import.
- Choose the platform the export came from.
- Upload the export you downloaded and check the preview.
- Click Import. Chatelope skips conversations it already has, so importing a newer export later only adds what’s new.
Don’t want to wait for the export emails? Paste a public share link for any conversation and it’s imported in seconds.
Step 3: Search across every assistant
Search runs over all imported conversations at once, whichever assistant they came from. It finds your search text in conversation titles and in the text of every message, and each result shows which assistant it came from, with the matching text highlighted.
- Narrow results by date range, folder or tag.
- File what you find into folders and tags, or star it, so it’s quicker to get back to next time.
- Your imported copy stays searchable even if the original chat is later deleted or you lose access to the account.
