Import Conversations

Chatelope supports importing conversation history from all major AI platforms. This guide covers the export process for each platform and how to import into Chatelope.

Supported Platforms

ChatGPT Export

How to Export

1. Sign in to chatgpt.com
2. Click your profile picture in the bottom-left
3. Select Settings
4. Go to Data Controls
5. Click Export Data
6. Confirm by clicking Confirm export

OpenAI will process your request and send an email with a download link. This usually takes a few minutes but can take longer for large accounts.

Export Contents

The ChatGPT export includes:

• conversations.json - All your conversations and messages
• Attachments folder with images and uploaded files
• User data and preferences

Import to Chatelope

1. Download the ZIP file from the email link
2. Go to Import in Chatelope
3. Select ChatGPT as the source
4. Upload the ZIP file
5. Review the preview and click Import

Claude Export

How to Export

1. Sign in to claude.ai
2. Click your initials in the lower-left corner
3. Select Settings
4. Go to Privacy
5. Click Export data
6. Download the ZIP file from the email link (it expires after 24 hours)

Export is only available on claude.ai and the desktop app, not in the iOS or Android apps.

Export Contents

The Claude export includes:

• Conversation data in JSON format
• Uploaded images and attachments

Import to Chatelope

1. Download the ZIP file
2. Go to Import in Chatelope
3. Select Claude as the source
4. Upload the ZIP file
5. Review and confirm the import

Google Gemini Export

How to Export

1. Go to Google Takeout
2. Click Deselect all at the top
3. Scroll down and check My Activity
4. Click All activity data included, then Deselect all in the pop-up
5. Check only Gemini Apps and click OK
6. Click Next step, keep the .zip format, and click Create export

Don't select the separate Gemini product in the Takeout list. It only exports your Gems, not your chat history.

Google will prepare your export and notify you when it's ready. This can take several hours depending on your data size.

Export Contents

The Gemini export includes:

• Your chats, in My Activity/Gemini Apps/My Activity.html
• Files and images from those chats, where Google includes them

Import to Chatelope

1. Download the ZIP file from Google
2. Go to Import in Chatelope
3. Select Gemini as the source
4. Upload the ZIP file
5. Review and import

Deduplication

Chatelope automatically detects and prevents duplicate imports. If you import the same conversations again, they will be skipped. This is based on the unique conversation ID from each platform.

Troubleshooting

Import is slow

Large exports with many attachments can take time to process. The import runs in the background, so you can continue using Chatelope.

Missing conversations

If some conversations are missing:

• Make sure you exported all data, not a date range
• Check if the conversations were archived on the source platform
• Try re-exporting from the platform

Attachment errors

If attachments fail to import:

• Ensure the ZIP file wasn't corrupted during download
• Try extracting and re-zipping the file
• Large attachments may timeout - try importing in smaller batches
