Introduction
Learn about Chatelope and its core concepts
Introduction
Chatelope is designed to be your central hub for AI conversations. This guide introduces the core concepts and helps you understand how the application works.
Architecture Overview
Chatelope consists of two main components:
- Web Application - A Next.js-powered web app that handles imports, storage, and the main user interface
- Mobile Application - A Flutter app for accessing your conversations on mobile devices
Your conversation data is stored locally in a SQLite database, giving you full control over your data.
Core Concepts
Conversations
A conversation is a single chat session with an AI assistant. Each conversation contains:
- Messages - The back-and-forth exchange between you and the AI
- Metadata - Title, creation date, source platform, etc.
- Attachments - Images, files, or other media shared in the conversation
Sources
Chatelope supports importing from multiple AI platforms:
| Platform | Export Method |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Settings > Data Controls > Export Data |
| Claude | Settings > Privacy > Export data |
| Gemini | Google Takeout > My Activity (Gemini Apps) |
Organization
You can organize your conversations using:
- Folders - Hierarchical organization like a file system
- Tags - Flexible labeling system for cross-cutting concerns
- Stars - Quick access to important conversations
AI Providers
Chatelope can connect to various AI services for its built-in chat feature:
- Cloud Providers - OpenAI, Anthropic, Google
- Self-Hosted - Ollama, LM Studio
Data Privacy
Your data stays on your device. Chatelope stores everything in a local SQLite database and never sends your conversation history to external servers. The only network requests are to AI providers when you use the built-in chat feature.
