Your AI conversations are valuable. This guide covers how to back up your Chatelope data and sync across devices.

Why Backup?

AI conversations contain:

• Problem-solving sessions
• Research and learning
• Code solutions
• Creative work
• Important decisions

Losing this data means losing knowledge and context you can't recreate.

Backup Options

Manual Backup

Create backups on demand:

1. Go to Settings > Data
2. Click Create Backup
3. Choose location
4. Save the backup file

Automatic Backup

Schedule regular backups:

1. Go to Settings > Data > Auto Backup
2. Enable automatic backups
3. Set frequency (daily/weekly)
4. Choose backup location

What's Included

Backups contain:

• All conversations and messages
• Folders and tags
• Settings and preferences
• Attachments (optional)

Backup Formats

Cloud Backup

Supported Providers

Sync to cloud storage:

• Dropbox
• Google Drive
• iCloud
• OneDrive
• Custom WebDAV

Setup

1. Go to Settings > Sync
2. Connect your cloud provider
3. Choose sync folder
4. Enable automatic sync

Sync Options

• Backup only - One-way to cloud
• Full sync - Two-way synchronization
• Encrypted - Encrypt before upload

Multi-Device Sync

How It Works

1. Both devices connect to cloud storage
2. Changes sync automatically
3. Conflicts are resolved by timestamp

Setup

On your primary device:

1. Configure cloud backup
2. Enable sync

On secondary devices:

1. Install Chatelope
2. Connect to same cloud
3. Import existing data

Conflict Resolution

When the same conversation is edited on multiple devices:

• Most recent edit wins
• Previous versions are kept
• Review conflicts in sync log

Restore from Backup

Full Restore

Restore everything:

1. Go to Settings > Data
2. Click Restore from Backup
3. Select backup file
4. Choose Replace all data
5. Confirm

Selective Restore

Restore specific items:

1. Click Restore from Backup
2. Select backup file
3. Choose Select items
4. Pick conversations/folders
5. Merge or replace

Best Practices

3-2-1 Rule

• 3 copies of data
• 2 different storage types
• 1 offsite location

Test Restores

Periodically verify backups work:

1. Create a test restore environment
2. Restore from backup
3. Verify data integrity
4. Delete test environment

Encryption

For sensitive data:

1. Enable backup encryption
2. Use a strong password
3. Store password securely (password manager)
4. Test decryption works

Full Export

Export everything:

1. Go to Settings > Data
2. Click Export All
3. Choose format (JSON/SQLite)
4. Download

Selective Export

Export specific conversations:

1. Select conversations
2. Right-click > Export
3. Choose format

1. Export from old device
2. Install Chatelope on new device
3. Import the export

1. Export in compatible format
2. Transform if needed
3. Import to destination

Disaster Recovery

If Data Is Lost

1. Stop using Chatelope immediately
2. Locate most recent backup
3. Restore from backup
4. Check for missing data

Backup Verification

Regularly verify your backups:

• Check backup files exist
• Verify file sizes are reasonable
• Test restore process
• Update backup procedures
